To own, operate and register an automobile in the state of Maryland you must prove financial responsibly.  Unlike many states that offer several methods to establish said ‘financial responsibility’, Maryland’s only option is to purchase a liability insurance policy.

Should you be involved in an accident, if you are found to be ‘at fault’ your insurance company will reimburse the injured party on your behalf.

Maryland’s minimum requirements are:

  • $20,000 bodily injury per person, per accident
  • $40,000 bodily injury for two or more persons, per accident
  • $15,000 property damage

Uninsured Motorists – same limits (20/40/15)  as above

$2,500 personal injury protection for your passengers

Maryland DUI Laws
The state of Maryland is much different from other states when it comes to driving while under the influence. The state has two sets of laws, one for Driving While Impaired or “DWI” and another for “DUI,” “Driving Under the Influence.” The difference between the two comes down to blood alcohol content level (BAC). You will be charged with a DUI if your BAC is at or above the proscribed level for all 50 states. This amount is equal to 0.08%. You will be charged with a DWI if your BAC is 0.07%.
