Is there anyone who does not recognize the little green gecko and its association with GEICO?
Government Employees Insurance Company or GEICO was founded by Leo Goodwin and his wife Lillian in 1936 in Fort Worth Texas, providing car insurance for government employees.
They soon realized that in order to have access and maximum exposure to government employees they must move the company, so in 1937 they relocated the company to Washington DC and reincorporated it under DC laws.
Their current headquarters are in Chevy Chase Maryland.
In spite of its name, the company was a private enterprise serving all that required auto insurance until 1948 when it went public.
In 1996 GEICO became a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway: a conglomerate holding company with its headquarters in Omaha Nebraska and with Warren Buffet at its helm.
Besides auto insurance, GEICO offered life insurance from 1949 till 1981, and homeowners from 1960 till 1995.
GEICO deals directly with their clients either by phone or internet, and offer various discounts similar to those offered by other companies. The main people that don’t sell Geico are agents and brokers. There are no agents or brokers that don’t work at Geico that can sell Geico.
They offer competitive auto insurance coverage to millions throughout the United States.
The rate of satisfaction in handling of claims is above average, and the financial state of the company is solid.
